Traditional Acupuncture, Modern Practice - Mango Acupuncture
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Emma Mango, Founder of Mango Acupuncture, located in Chester, United Kingdom.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business provides people with traditional Chinese acupuncture treatment, including massage, cupping therapy, moxibustion, and other traditional Chinese medicine tools. I also run small workshops designed to help people understand Chinese medicine theory and apply it to their lives using self-care and education about seasonal living. My clients are young and old, all genders, looking for holistic ways to treat various health issues and look after their well-being in general. Many of my clients are simply looking to be heard and given space to heal.
Tell us about yourself
I knew I had to study to become an acupuncturist from about age 17 after I'd been diagnosed with Meniere's disease and was successfully treated by a local Chinese medicine doctor, Dr. Ying Liu. Having narrowly avoided having major surgery and permanent deafness, I wanted to learn how acupuncture worked so that I could help someone just as acupuncture had helped me. My clients motivate me each day, and my relationship with them is very important to me. I've known some of them for almost 10 years through all their ups and downs.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been building a sustainable business that sustains me and my clients - having clients who return for many years is a huge accomplishment for me personally. Not to mention surviving through the last 2 years and being able to pick up the pieces and build the business back up again over the last year.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The uncertainty of your income and how many things can affect the way the business runs - or not.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Do something you are fascinated by, provide excellent heartfelt service because you care about how you affect others, put yourself out there and ask for help.
