Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Maliyah Mayfield, founder, and owner of Kalua Rae LLC & Gurl 2 Girl, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I have two businesses that I work on full-time. My first business is my handcrafted jewelry line called Kalua Rae. My signature style is minimalistic with a bohemian twist. Kalua Rae jewelry is jewelry for the wandering soul. Our customers are women from the age of 13-50 years old!
My second business is my Women’s networking group called Gurl 2 Girl. We are based in Atlanta, GA. Our customer base is mainly entrepreneurial women.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Maliyah Mayfield. I am a Savannah College of Art & Design graduate! I studied Fashion Marketing and Management, where I launched my jewelry line in 2017 for my final product. Working full time for myself as an entrepreneur can get lonely sometimes, which led me to create the Gurl2Girl networking group! I am motivated every day not only to live out my entrepreneurial dream but to help other women with theirs as well.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment so far is opening my very own Pop Up Shop.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
In my opinion, finances are the hardest thing when it comes to owning a small business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be an expert at what you do! Be able to provide full service to your customer.
- Know your customer! Know exactly what they are looking for when supporting your business.
- Don’t give up! Every day is a roller coaster; enjoy the ride.
