What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a team of hair and makeup artists who do bridal and event beauty.
Tell us about yourself
I started in the beauty industry when I was 19. I was bored of doing reception jobs and wanted to do something more artistic. I'd always loved expressing myself through makeup, and I always had people asking me how to do their makeup. Walking through a Sephora, I thought to myself, "I can do this!". I then went and got my certification and started at MAC a couple of months later. After a number of years at MAC and bouncing between counters, I finally decided to freelance on my own. Eight years later, I am still freelancing, but I have a small team now, and I still love it!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being patient and consistent enough to make progress and keep growing. Hiring a team was a big accomplishment!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is having to wear all the hats. As a business owner, I am the bookkeeper, customer service rep, sales rep, social media marketer, photographer/videographer, etc... not just a makeup artist.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Be patient, be consistent and be kind to yourself.
