What's your business, and who are your customers?

Maha Vidya specializes in individualized healing and learning experiences for guests who want to join us on the Northwest Coast of Puerto Rico or study with us online. We offer personalized retreats and cleanse programs in person and from a distance, along with educational and professional study programs in the field of Yoga and Ayurveda with master teachers from around the world.

Tell us about yourself

I was introduced to Ayurveda at the age of twelve while babysitting. When the kids slept, I would dive into the texts, increasing my awareness of healing practices and self-care. Upon graduation, I attended my first yoga program with the Himalayan Institute. I continued to get a BS from the University of Natural Medicine in Nutrition and Ayurveda, followed by further studies from Ayurvedic Colleges and private mentorships with today's leading teachers.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I owned and operated a beautiful health center on the island of St Croix for many years before relocating to Puerto Rico. It helped me develop as a business owner and supported me with the most beautiful community of practitioners. We collectively created a wellness hub that still feels very alive in our hearts years later.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I'm a mother of two, and sometimes I would like to take more breaks from work, if possible. I’m also always in creation mode, which is hard to turn off the switch when it’s time to take a break.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don’t trust the time! My guru said this, and it’s helped me to say YES to opportunity even when I'm unsure of the HOW.
  2. Small seeds hold the energy of the giant tree. I think sometimes those looking to go into business feel overwhelmed by the process, but if you inch along, poco de poco, little by little, huge things can happen! Just do it!
  3. Follow your heart. 100%
