What's your business, and who are your customers?
We help small businesses stand out & sell out using community-centered social media strategies. Our main mission is to bring accessible education, motivation, and community to small business owners everywhere so they can live the life of freedom that they desire. I want to make everyone feel like being an entrepreneur, chasing their passions, and living the life they desire is possible in their life.
Tell us about yourself
I have always been an entrepreneurial spirit - from donut stands in my driveway at six years old to bracelet making at 10 to creating photo slideshows for events at 12. I have always loved having a business or a project to work towards. But the most influential business endeavor in my life was when my family bought an adventure resort in Northeastern Wisconsin when I was 12 years old.
By the time I was 14, I was taking phone call reservations and managing their social media profiles. By 16, I was guiding high adventure activities with groups of people. And by the time I was 17, I was the Operations Manager of a team of 30, putting almost 20,000 people on activities in the summer. This only propelled my love for business, entrepreneurship, and the outdoors.
I went to college and got two business degrees. While in college, I started managing other local businesses’ social media profiles because, naturally, I needed another project to work towards. I had someone ask me if I would teach their team what I was doing and the strategy I was following, and I fell in LOVE with consulting. Fast forward to today, I have a business that I love dearly that has allowed me to help over 150 other people chase their passions and freedom in small business, and I have traveled to over 25 states in the last 12 months while working remotely. This is the perfect blend of my entrepreneurial & adventurous spirit to keep me going - and we are just getting started!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Without a doubt creating a life full of autonomy and freedom - time, location, finances, and passion - for me & for my clients. Some of my happiest days are days when one of my clients tells me they have achieved a major goal that we have been working towards - whether it’s quitting their 9-5, hitting a big sales goal, or being able to see sales even when they are on vacation with their family. My autonomy is something that I am grateful for every single day, and the fact that I can create that for other people while living a life I love is my biggest accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Oof, don’t get me wrong, there are definitely ups and downs of being an entrepreneur, and with all of the wonderful autonomy and freedom comes its own challenges. I would say the hardest thing that I have experienced is that everything is so very personal when it’s your business. Every decision is yours to make. Every wrong decision comes back on you. Every “failed” project comes back on you. Separating the success and momentum your business is seeing from your day-to-day life and self-worth can be hard when this is your BABY!
You put so much effort, love, and care into building it, and when something doesn’t go perfectly, you have to be able to just roll with the punches - oftentimes alone if you don’t have a team of people working with you. That adaptability & not taking things too personally can be so hard some days!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Differentiate in SOME way from what everyone else is doing.
- Focus on building a community over EVERYTHING.
- Choose something that you absolutely love to talk about all day long - because you will.
