Meditation Keeps You Sane - Madhur-Nain Webster

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Madhur-Nain Webster, an author, meditation instructor and licensed marriage and family therapist based in Napa, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a psychotherapist and life coach (since 2000) who loves to work with clients to make healing changes in their lives by setting goals, finding the change they want, and teaching them the skills to make it happen. I am all about tools, insight, cognitive reflections, and growth. I work a lot with adults (women and men) and couples. In 2020 I started to work with adult children and their mothers or father in repairing and healing the past. This was powerful and deep work.

Tell us about yourself

Many don't know this about me; I was studying international business marketing at the University of Oregon before I switched to counseling and psychology. I love working with and helping people in their life. We all could use someone to support us, push us and teach us the skills and tools when we need help or guidance. In the 22 years of working with clients, my business background shows up in the many business adventures such as meditation products (over 65 plus singles - you can find me on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, and all over streaming sites), mindfulness products, Writing my first book The Stressless Brain (2nd edition will be out early 2023), a 2nd book end of 2023 and online workshops - Soul Self. I have a deep creative part of me that loves to create, grow and change. My work with clients (I am always learning new skills and pieces of training), creating new products to share and sell, writing another book, or developing/recording a new meditation. My creative side supports me so that I can support and help others. Balance is so important in life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My first response is raising my two adult sons; what a hard and beautiful journey parenting is. Then I think about my journey as a businesswoman working for myself for 22 years. I am most proud of writing my first book, The Stressless Brain, because school was always a big struggle for me. I had/have many learning disabilities in a time when this was not seen or supported. It was an uphill battle from the start. The writing of my book is a symbol of success for me, it is a part of me, and it is me being vulnerable.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is the part about doing it alone. I don't have a business partner in my business to bounce ideas off, talk about new ventures or get feedback (because not all ideas should be acted on). This can feel a little lonely at times. I have a supportive husband who believes in me, which is great and important. Since running my business for over 22 years, I have built a team around me who help me with different projects. I have hired business coaches to bounce ideas off and get support in how to grow my business. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Not all hobbies can be our career. But many careers can support our hobbies, which can give us drive and focus.
  2. Talk about and share your goals with trusted family and friends. Write and think about your goals daily and weekly. This supports the manifestation of the goals and also sets you up for bigger success in putting them into action.
  3. Dream big and know when one door closes, another door will open as long as you learn from the mistakes and see them as growth opportunities rather than failures. You never know what will happen in the future. Trust me, I have had my share of failed projects, AND I used them as opportunities to really focus on what I want and what I may need to change to get it.
