Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in leadership development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Yoann Joyeux, Founder of Lycaon.io, located in Val-du-Mignon, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a leadership coach supporting leaders in their personal strategy definition and implementation. I work with people who want deep insights and action-oriented experiences. Based in France and spending part of my career in South Africa, my clients are in Europe, Africa, and the US. I work with C-level professionals, independent workers as well as athletes.
Tell us about yourself
I discovered my first coaching tools when I enrolled in the nonprofit programme Partners for Possibilities in South Africa. It is a mentoring programme where private sector leaders support township school directors in transformation programmes. I learnt through this field experience that beyond technical and organisational solutions, opening new possibilities and spaces to think were sometimes very powerful ways to transform yourself and the teams you are working with. My daily motivation comes from witnessing deep transformation happening with my clients. I love how resourceful human beings can be. Working with people creates a positive circle to try and learn new tools and explore new options.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
After a few years as a leadership coach, I ventured into professional sports and started supporting leading European rugby coaches in mental preparation.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
However risky, new, or somehow conventional, your path is always very personal. Being a coach to me is never compromising on work/life balance, authenticity, and serving my clients. And as much as I surround myself with the right support structure and build a thriving sub-culture, I do feel lonely at times when new challenges come at the door.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
I would start by asking, “what is your main thing?”. It doesn’t have to be one activity or even too specific but be clear about what is your unique talent and how you will make a living of it.
Once clear on this long-term vision: “where is the passion, now”? I would dare you to follow it as the first thread you pull.
Lastly, review all your routines and habits, as 5 minutes every day of anything positive or negative will have a heavy compounding effect.
