Tell us about yourself
My name is Christal D. Smith. I am a special needs mom and advocate. Global Entrepreneur/Traveler and multiple passive income enthusiast. Helping Moms raise the overall quality of life through multiple screams of income. If you want to make money from your passion, you can do it with or without working yourself to death and without quitting your day job. I decided to start my business because I needed to spend more time with my daughter, who has a rare condition called hydrocephalus. She has had to have brain and body surgery a total of 4 times, and I needed to miss days to weeks of work to be able to take care of her as a single mom. At any given time, her body can decide she needs surgery again, so I wanted to be able to not only be able to provide for her but allow her the freedom to be able to travel with me and see the world and experience life as much as she and her younger brother can. My motivation comes from my children, especially my daughter; she has been a fighter since she was born at 1lb 9oz and spent over 100 days in the NICU. She didn't give up; she was resilient and made me look at life and work harder differently.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being able to be the blueprint for Special needs moms. Letting them know that you do not need to feel guilty about having to work and spend time away from your child. You can actually earn passive income and spend as much time as you need with your children and take pressure off yourself.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Balancing being a Special Mom and Entrepreneur. It was very hard managing my kid's schooling schedule, doctor's appointments, trips, and running my business as a solopreneur. I'm honestly just now getting into the groove of things because my children are getting older and have the liberty of bringing them with me to work, and they are independent enough to do things for themselves. I had to learn how to build a team and start doing more self-care for myself.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Invest in a Coach or mentor. You need a new set of eyes on your business and from someone who has made mistakes and can show what they did or learned.
- Serve your community, always pay it forward and share knowledge and be able to receive knowledge; we do not know everything.
- Not every L is a loss; there are lessons to be learned when operating a business. Every day will not always be great but make the best of what you have and push through.
