What's your business, and who are your customers?
LUNA Mother Co is a collective of perinatal & women's health experts who are reinventing the way people experience some of the most transformational times in their life, from pregnancy and postpartum recovery to menopause. LUNA's global online platform & mobile app is the first all-in-one resource that offers evidence-based fitness, pelvic floor & core rehab programs, educational content from leaders in perinatal + women's health, nutrition, guided meditations, and more. LUNA also offers the only program to date for people who have experienced pregnancy & infant loss to begin to connect to + heal their body through a 4 part core & pelvic floor series and restorative yoga practices, process emotions with the help of mental health experts, and honor their loss with a community that supports them.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Sarah Bradford. I am a mother of two, the Founder & CEO of LUNA Mother Co, and a Certified Personal Trainer, Pre & Postnatal Exercise Specialist, Core & Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Specialist, Female Athlete Coach, and Childbirth Educator. Through my own personal experiences with multiple rounds of IVF, miscarriage, pregnancies, births, and postpartum recoveries, I was astounded by the lack of evidence-based information, resources, and support for people during such a transformational time.
After my first child was born, I set out on a mission to reinvent the way people experience pregnancy and postpartum. I opened the first-ever pre & postnatal fitness studio in Marin, CA, in 2017. Shortly after opening, our in-person classes became highly sought after, with waitlists to get in. Then in 2019, while pregnant with my daughter, I decided to make what I believe to be fundamental information, education, resources, and support we all deserve more widely available and accessible to people all over the world and launched LUNA's all-in-one virtual platform & mobile app in January of 2020. I am continuously motivated and inspired by the experiences of our LUNA community and am grateful to be able to help people feel stronger and more empowered as mothers than ever before.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has to be creating and building the app while eight months pregnant, launching it with a newborn and a four-year-old in tow, and watching our community grow by the thousands. It was a lot of work with two young children, but this is something I believe in wholeheartedly, and it is absolutely a labor of love.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Balance and time management. As a business owner, you don't really have set working hours, so it can feel like you are always on call. That can make it hard to find the right work/life balance. Learning to manage your time is essential but not always easy Things can pile up, and it can feel overwhelming at times.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
If you believe in your idea, take the leap. There will never be a "perfect time" to do it. You just have to believe in yourself, in your dream, and go for it. When you hit bumps along the road (which you will), take a step back and remind yourself of why you started down this path to begin with, and keep moving forward. You'll get over the bumps, and you and your business will be that much stronger for it. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Find a mentor or someone with experience in your field who you can seek advice from, ask questions, and bounce things off.
