Specialist in Traditional Postpartum Care - Luna Mama Services

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Metztli Lopez Torres, Founder of Luna Mama Services, Inc., located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a traditional body and birth worker, and I provide products and services for women in all stages of life. All my work is rooted in Mesoamerican knowledge coming from my own totonaco-nahua lineage.

Tell us about yourself

I started my business a few years later I arrived in the USA. I saw a big gap in postpartum care and, more specifically, in women's care based on indigenous knowledge, so I decided to fill up that space with my services and products.

What motivates me to do my work is HEALING. I see this current society needs a lot of healing to be able to move to a different place where people, especially women as mothers and part of a family, can live their lives with happiness and in healthy connection with everything around them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is to be an example for other women and mothers about having a healthy life rooted in our traditions. To remove those old unhealthy patterns and find our true selves through our innate natural connection with nature.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest part of being a business owner is to find a correct balance between work and family life. And, of course, learn to put priorities in a correct way that allows us to understand where to put our attention first.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My 3 top tips for anyone looking to start, run or grow a business are:

  1. Be patient. Having a business is a learning experience, and even in the worst situations, there is always something to learn about it.
  2. Don't give up. It may look hard sometimes, but consolidating a business takes time.
  3. Follow your heart. When you do things from your heart and with love, things will come to you more easily.
