Nourish Yourself With Yogic Knowledge - Lucy St. John
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lucy St. John, owner of Lucy St. John Yoga, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I offer authentic yogic teachings for the contemporary person. Through a virtual yoga studio and short and long courses both live and online. My customers are Teachers, people interested in yoga, Ayurveda, or personal development who want an equality-based instruction style. I believe in an inclusive, culturally and trauma-informed approach.
Tell us about yourself
I went to India in 1996 and spent seven months experiencing a state of consciousness only the yogis could explain. I spent more than 12 years learning in a yogic tradition. It is my wish that each human being can know how special they are and offer their unique gift to the world, which can be found by understanding their true self.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Using my privilege and knowledge to create a better world. Whether offering work or encouragement to BIPOC students and colleagues, helping someone find their life's purpose or offering techniques that create peace in the world.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Taking time off each day.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- If it doesn't feel good or authentic to you, don't do it. Remain integral to yourself and your vision.
- Be passionate about what you do or offer; it will get you through the nitty-gritty stuff that has to be done.
- Getting feedback is like getting gold. Take it that way and be prepared to "fail" and grow if you want to succeed.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Your purpose (dharma) is not what you do for a living; it is what you do all the time, for free, because it comes easily to you.
