La Moutonnière - Lucille Giroux

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lucille Giroux, owner of La Moutonnière Inc., located in Sainte-Hélène-de-Chester, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We raise dairy sheep and make cheeses, eight kinds of cheeses, and yogurt. Our Cie is artisanal cheese making, and we sell through local markets and to small specialized shops and restaurants.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a sheep breeder and was the first to milk sheep in Quebec in 1992. My interest was to make more products with fewer animals. There were no sheep cheeses produced in Quebec and Canada at that time, and there were no dairy breeds of sheep. I imported animals from Sweden in 1995. My business was a challenge, but it is rewarding to do everything from the animal to the plate.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating a new production in Quebec and partly in Canada.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Dealing with employees.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Believe in what you do, love what you make, and promote all this.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

There should be more on my website; I'm French-speaking, it would have been easier for me to write in French, but my website has been translated.
