What's your business, and who are your customers?
Love Peridot /ləv/ per-ə-dō(t) is a collection of accessories and gifts curated with the ambitious woman in mind. We search all over the world to find the perfect accessory that will motivate you in the workplace, in your side hustle, and even at home. From mugs to books to candles to journals, you are bound to find that unique and must-have. We aim to have an accessory that contributes to and impacts your ambitious lifestyle in some way. You'll also find quite a few fellow small business faves on the shelves as we LOVE to support!
Tell us about yourself
I started Love Peridot because of my love of accessories. While working in corporate, I saw the need for motivational items that would help me get through work days, such as mugs, pens, journals, etc., and started adding them to the store. What was once an accessory store turned into SO much more! Knowing that I am inspiring people by doing this and with the collections motivates me to keep going.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest business accomplishment to date has to be the Black Owned Business Spotlight feature by the Chicago Bulls in March of 2022. To be a small business in Chicago and be featured for my city to see was a feeling I can't describe! Love Peridot is also included in the Black Parade Route directory of Black-owned businesses on Beyonce.com, which is beyond exciting!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is the motivation to keep going. No matter how easy it may look on socials, etc. - it is NOT! But it is very rewarding being able to pour into customers through my business. That's what keeps me going, knowing that I am making a difference in lives daily with the collections that I curate.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Stay in your own lane and always do YOU. Don't worry about what others are doing.
- Grow a tribe and join a community. You can't do it alone.
- Keep going! There are a lot of ups and downs, but you have what it takes.
