Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kelly McCausey, Owner of Love People + Make Money, located in St. Johns, MI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Love People + Make Money is my business and I love to ask the question, ‘What do you want to create more of in the world?'. As a business and mindset coach, I help people implement their answers through content marketing and community building.

Tell us about yourself

I got my start in 2002. Back then, I was a single mom with one young son. I made graphics and websites for other home-based business owners. I worked too hard and charged too little. Like many new business owners, I didn’t understand the value of my time.

Over the years, I learned there are many ways to build an income online, and I have built a variety of online projects; some taught me valuable lessons and some brought me growing success. As important as my business experiences have been, the personal work I’ve done around self-love, self-compassion, and mindset has been even more valuable. For many years now, I no longer trade hours for dollars. I blog, podcast, design, partner, create information products, run membership programs, hold live retreats, and coach others to get where they want to be in an online business.

My community and helping them create more of what they want in the world is what motivates me each day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say there are a lot of big accomplishments but all the times I have been able to collaborate with others to help someone in need are definitely big accomplishments. Joining forces with others has created opportunities over the years to help a work-at-home mom replace a computer, help another single work-at-home mom pay an unexpected bill, and raise money to help my nephew pay for cancer treatment - just to name a few!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

This may not be the hardest thing, but it's a recent insight I had about business & life: creating more of what I want to see in the world is not about always getting things right. I see that it’s about not giving up when I don’t.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get a coach.
  2. Find a group of like-minded individuals (something like a mastermind group).
  3. Build your business (community) and start creating more of what you want in the world.
