Love Is Always The Subject - Kamilah Shuaibe

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kamilah Shuaibe, CEO and Founder of Love Is Always The Subject, located in Hayward, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Love Is Always The Subject Institute honors the leadership and greatness of indigenous women. We create spaces for the higher self to flourish and connect with other like-minds on the journey to success, self-love, and happiness.

Tell us about yourself

I am a transformational life coach. When Love Is Always The Subject first launched, it began as a social media hashtag to celebrate "Black Joy," "Black Excellence," and "Black Love." I wanted to celebrate our beauty and not our pain during a time of social injustice. After reflecting on the core motivation of the company and why it was created, my thoughts kept going back to "Love." The love stories behind the different posts. The idea of Black narratives and my love for journals caused me to rethink the direction of our business. So I began to design and publish guided journals to encourage the preservation of our narratives, our legacy, hopes, dreams, triumphs, testimonies, and our prayers.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Journaling has always been my safe space to check in with spirit, visualize the life I want, track and reflect on my healing journey, hold myself accountable and honor my higher self.

I created Love Is Always The Subject Institute because I realize the source of the love we seek to give and receive starts from within. I have published multiple guided journals. My most popular are:

  • Love Notes to Self
  • Guided Journal for Young Girls
  • I Praise Different: a Daily Devotional
  • Love is Always the Subject: Guided Journal to Self Love
  • The Book of Boundaries: How to Know Your No

I have also helped over a dozen businesses design and publish their guided journals to accompany their books, conferences, group therapy programs, education and training workshops, and more. So I am excited to bring my skills in how to create guided journals for wellness and personal development.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As a small business owner, there will always be challenges which is why I stay focused on the mission and my passion for this work. Make every day an opportunity to make an impact, remind myself that this work has everything to do with my commitment to G'd by loving myself the way G'd loves me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you love it.
  2. Always be a student of your craft. How can you grow and get better at what you hope to offer humanity?
  3. Find a safe space, a community of other entrepreneurs who will motivate you and challenge you to think bigger.
