Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Louise Van der Velde, Distribution - Relationship Expert and Tech Philanthropist based in London, UK.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
High net worth and people who want to make a difference in the world. Technology companies impact investors and projects.
Tell us about yourself
I was an entrepreneur from a young age, starting at 14 with an ice cream van. My businesses have since included running a model agency, supplying tv models and clients like the F1, and later building 2 Drs and wellness clinics ( sold 15 years ago, still running my model today). I trained as a relationship expert who then ran retreats, coaching, wellness and investor events, tech distribution, and, more recently, a mega yacht project and a VIP travel network. My relationship and psychology experience has been instrumental.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Running events for 2000 attendees with 12 weeks lead in time. Raising over 50 mils in investment. And the latest is a raise for our cutting-edge technology wellness yacht.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It's a fact that the uncertainty we can comfortably handle is in direct proportion to the success we will have in our life. I've been tested to the limit on this. The hardest thing has been keeping going positively when people let you down on funds they owe you and staying upbeat when you are not sure how you will make your payroll. Knowing you will always find a way. But keeping your eye on the bigger picture, knowing it's an energy game, has got me in an incredible position.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- To find your highest purpose, you'll have to work endless hours, and the only way that's possible is if it's your greatest passion.
- Have pinpoint focus; it's great to do multiple businesses, but they must link.
- Understand it's an energy game that means not wasting your energy in any way. There are rules to the game. Learn them.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Do not chase money for money's sake; think about how you can serve and give value using your unique skills and gifts. Make it about something bigger than yourself. Make a clear list of why you are doing what you want to do. That will become your greatest driver. Don't get distracted from that, no matter what happens. Find a mentor who achieves what you want.
