Lead With Humanity • Grow Without Limits - Louise Brown

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Louise Brown, Founder of Louise Brown Coaching, Ltd., located in London, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help leaders get better results by tuning in to their human. My coaching and advisory support help clients free up time, energy, and headspace, tap into a deeper source of confidence and unlock potential in themselves and those around them to help them grow their businesses.

Tell us about yourself

I came to coaching when I discovered the power of tuning in to the human. Time and again over my 20-year career working with businesses from start-ups to Proctor & Gamble and KPMG, I noticed traditional leadership styles that don't factor in our human nature could leave leaders and their teams tired, frustrated, and ineffective, and at times struggling to access their full potential.

As a leader and a colleague, I realized that tuning in to my human-delivered results, whether it was creating a vision I could confidently share, increasing my vulnerability and empowering my leadership team, or accepting feedback that was hard to hear but enabled me to lead better. Suddenly I felt like I was doing a completely different job, where decisions were easier to make, relationships were easier to manage, and growth was easier to create.

We are often told the opposite, but I discovered that you CAN meet your growth objectives and deliver on your promises to yourself, your investors, your people, your customers, and your family. Now I love helping others operate from a place where their potential is unlimited and they can make a massive difference in their own lives and those of others.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing the transformative effects of coaching on the individuals and teams I work with is so satisfying. I have clients who have gone from struggling to represent their value to being sought-after by the media for a perspective and comment, to those who have added 40% to their bottom line growth and those who show up so differently as a result of the work we have done together that dreams they thought would always remain in the pipeline suddenly seem possible - it's inspiring.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Prioritizing. I'm someone who has lots of ideas, and when you work for yourself, you can only do one thing at a time. Working out where you can make the most impact each time is a daily challenge.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Champion yourself—we are programmed to remember negatives over positives. Keeping track of the small (and big) wins right from the start is essential to maintain energy levels and motivation.
  2. Forget multi-tasking; despite what modern life and the increasing sophistication of technology suggests, we are more effective when we do one thing at a time. Focus is one of the most powerful tools for success.
  3. Ask for help; one person can never be the best at everything. Outsourcing as much of the stuff you don't excel in as you can will free up energy for you to add disproportionate value in the areas where you are gifted. It's not a weakness to reach out for a helping hand when you are stuck!
