What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a professional pet photographer. I love to bring joy to pet parents who love their pets as members of their family and want to have lasting memories of the journey they have experienced together.

Tell us about yourself

As they say, a photo speaks a thousand words, and I saw all these pets at shelters that needed to be adopted, but they did not have the best photos. So I volunteered my services to a few rescues/shelters around my area. Before you know it, pets were getting adopted quicker than before. Then, my passion for helping rescues/shelters slowly moved into my business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Raising more than $15K for a rescue during a pet photo calendar contest.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As a pet photographer, the hardest thing is when a pet parent hires me for an end-of-life session. Yes, I am honored that they have selected me for that special occasion, but I know that I will not see that furbaby again, and I know how much the parents are suffering for their pet. For me, anytime I learn or know one of the pets I have photographed crosses the rainbow bridge, it is like they take a piece of my heart with them.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Start a business because you are going to enjoy what you are doing. Not just to make money. Put your heart into it and always be humble, and help others.
