Change the Way People Look - LOOK ORGANICS
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Caroline Candace, Founder of LOOK ORGANICS, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My name is Caroline Candace, and I am the founder of LOOK Organics. We aim to change the way people LOOK at their everyday products, their bodies, and the world. We are setting ourselves apart by raising awareness of our standards. We want to be as transparent as possible and make it effortless for you to recognize what's genuinely in our products. We are looking to make the world a better place, and it's starting with our products. Making the world a better place seems like an almost impossible task, but we want to remind you - we are all consumers. The products you choose to spend money on and the companies you choose to support can truly impact the world. Harsh chemicals in conventional personal care products are not only harmful to our skin, but conventional agriculture also threatens almost all of our ecosystems. We choose to support organic farming because it works in a way that conserves and builds soil health and replenishes natural ecosystems for cleaner water and air - all without toxic chemical residues. We are doing our best to nourish ecosystems in nature, and that includes our own. Together, we can change the world and make it a better place.
Tell us about yourself
I am an Orthomolecular Health Practitioner + Holistic Nutritionist by trade. I used to make my skin care products in my bathroom, mixing coconut oil, olive oil, and a bunch of other raw ingredients. I was consistently asked by my audience on Instagram regarding what skincare products I used and recommended brands I trusted, and to be honest -there weren't many, and I'd usually recommend mixing their own raw ingredients. Of course, most people aren't me – and didn't want to make their skincare products themselves. I saw this as an in-demand problem/issue, and I was about to solve it. I was going to create a minimal ingredient + fragrance-free skincare brand.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Continually growing my company means making a greater impact on people's lives.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I love being an entrepreneur, but it's not for everyone. I can work flexible hours, but I'm never really off the clock. I can make as much money as I want, but there isn't always stability, and there can be uncertainty. Most businesses have high and low periods, so it is essential to be prepared for that. I can travel whenever I want, but I can never really unplug. If you want all of the benefits that come along with having your own business – you need to figure out what your ideal customers want and put their needs first.
You have to love this process (and your business), or you'll never survive.
If you are the kind of person who needs structure and stability, you might prefer working for someone else. If you are the kind of person who enjoys taking risks and isn't afraid of instability, becoming an entrepreneur might be an excellent choice for you.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Solve an important issue with your products and services.
- Get rid of limiting beliefs.
- Breathe because most things will never go as planned.
