Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Anthony Lo Cascio, Co-Author of LOCA Foods, Inc., located in Howard Beach, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Mindset matters. And with this thinking, I have come to discover I am like a modern-day shaman or "care-taker" of other souls. I do this through thoughts and conversations in the areas of tap dance and food - specifically sustainable diets free from gluten, corn, soy, and dairy. I make delicious food for people who need it, and yes, you read that properly, "TAP DANCE." That said, my personal motto is to leave the world better than I found it in whatever spaces the Universe would like me to exist in. At the moment, our focus is on food. Our International best-selling, award-winning book, "Food As a Prescription: A Handbook For Those Currently On or Prescribed a Gluten Free, Soy Free, Corn Free, and/or Dairy Free Diet," is available where books are sold online and right now, my co-author & wife, Staci, and I are cooking online every Monday night in 2023 as we prepare for our second book, a cookbook, "All We Do is Delicious."
Tell us about yourself
One thing led to another for me. By following the universe and living in the moment, I was able to experience a life where I became a famous tap dancer. I have performed in all 50 states, 5 countries, and 1 Principality. Eventually, I struggled to remain on stage as I was struck with some very serious health issues. After 20+ years, thanks to my wife, Staci, and life-long friend, Dr. Robert Gucciardo, I discovered food was my solution and started a gluten-free, soy-free, corn-free, and 95% dairy-free diet. I lost 35 lbs, the inflammation in my body drastically decreased, and my skin cleared up. Oh, I may have buried the lead. I also stopped internally bleeding! WOW!! I would like to add I did this without any prescription drugs. Ultimately, my motivation lies in helping others through dietary challenges they may not know or understand how to navigate without some guidance.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Changing lives by being passionate about life. I love people. I love what the Universe has shared with me, what it has taught me. I am grateful. I love when I get to be an unsuspecting messenger for positive energy and personal illumination of both myself and others. Whether my life experiences are to empower others through a book I write, to teach them a tap step, to produce a show with or for them, or share a recipe with their family, I never know how or when I will affect other souls.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Of course, you never want to plan to fail. And when I started my first few businesses, I was reluctant to have an exit strategy because I thought that fell into the category of "planning to fail." However, I know now that having a plan to exit is actually planning for success!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Understand the costs. Going into a new business venture, not knowing how much you really need in order to climb that hill can end something before it even starts.
- Take time to think. What needs to be signed today can also be signed tomorrow.
- It's never too soon to start planning. Letting your ideas simmer tends to allow for a more flushed-out approach when the time comes to implement the plan.
