Fine Jewelry Is Your Canvas - llyn strong fine art jewelry

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with llyn strong, founder of llyn strong fine art jewelry, located in Greenville, SC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

llyn strong fine art jewelry is a very creative type of jewelry store that was established in Greenville, SC, in 1986. Along with my small team, we transform precious metals and gemstones into wearable works of art that bring beauty, inspiration, and lasting meaning to the wearer. My customers are very discerning consumers who expect quality work and appreciate unique and beautiful designs and high-quality gemstones.

Tell us about yourself

I am an artist who has become a business owner creating wearable fine art jewelry. Finding ways to navigate as a right-brain thinker in a left-brain-dominated world can be difficult, but that is what sets me apart from other business owners. The creative process is always extremely motivating. There are always new creative problems to solve when art and functionality come together.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is understanding and cultivating my customer's visions and turning them into wearable and beautiful jewelry. Jewelry is often thought of as an heirloom to be passed down in a family, so the succession of my business to my daughter, Sydney Strong, is another accomplishment that I'm very proud of. Not only have I turned my creative endeavors into a successful business, but a business that Sydney, who is a graduate gemologist and jewelry designer, sees as sustainable and something worth carrying on.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I'd say the hardest part about being a business owner is managing employees and creating a healthy and productive work environment. It can be a challenge to understand my employee's needs as well as the needs of the business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The first tip is to make sure you have a passion for the type of business you want to start. Second, prepare to be not only excited but also terrified as an owner of your own business. Finally, look to hire great employees and find outside resources you can trust. Play to your strengths and find people you can count on who are knowledgeable about or skilled in the areas you struggle with.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Owning your own business can be very gratifying. It is one of the best and hardest things you can do.
