Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Liz Roberta, Award Winning Spiritual Biz Coach, based in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I have a coaching business that helps entrepreneurs in the spiritual, holistic, and wellness space rise into their full power so they can create the income and impact they truly desire. I run various different programs to help with this: a Sacred Sisters private members community for female entrepreneurs, my Spiritual Coaching Academy certification, and my Money Medicine healing for wealth program, to name a few!
Tell us about yourself
It was pursuing a book deal that indirectly led to the beginning of my business. In 2018, I had so many words come through that I realized I was meant to write a book in this life. To get a book deal, you have to be known as an authority on your topic, so I started blogging every week and posting inspirational quotes on my Instagram account. From there, it all grew organically, offering Tarot readings, then one-on-one coaching, then group programs, a membership, and online courses.
I wake up every morning (early, around 5 a.m.!) feeling lit up and so excited for what's coming that day. I can't wait to go on social media and open my emails. I love teaching and creating content. The whole thing lights me up so much and gives me energy, which is so different from when I was in corporate life, and it was the total opposite!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I got a book deal from my dream publisher, Hay House, in October 2020. They're the world's biggest publisher of self-help books, so I felt really supported through the process and have become part of an amazing community of successful authors and businesspeople in my niche.
Seeing the book sell all around the world—from Norway to Australia to small bookstores on the Scottish coast—it's amazing to have that recognition and a lead magnet I created from pure love that brings people into my business every day.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Time management! And also, in the specific area that I'm in, people don't understand what I do. I feel as though people are moving forward with regard to integrating their spiritual selves, but there is still a lot of toxic masculinity that gets in the way, particularly in the Western world.
I would also love to have a few more hours in the day, as the to-do list never ends as an entrepreneur, and it's hard to switch off from the online world when you're always connected to it through your phone and laptop.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Find what you love, keep doing it, and don't give up. It sounds simple, but so many entrepreneurs quit without realizing the time it usually takes for things to take off. When you read about super-successful entrepreneurs, they were usually in it for years before they got any kind of recognition or even profits. This is why it has to be something you love because that will keep you doing it even when you're not getting paid.
The passion will also feed through into your work, and people will be able to sense it from you. Alignment is so important for having long-term, sustainable success and a soul-aligned business that lights you up!
