Visual Arts Colorist and Architect - Liz Castellar

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Liz Castellar, Founder of Archipalettes - The Color Studio, located in Bordeaux, France.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Archipalettes - The Color Studio is a website to learn about colors, with a special focus on the use of color in the applied and visual arts. I regularly share content such as blog articles, guides, online courses, and classes on my YouTube channel to learn about color theory, color psychology, and color analysis in art and film. I have students of all kinds of profiles, but above all, from creative careers such as interior design, graphic design, or fine arts students.

Tell us about yourself

I'm Liz Castellar, an Applied and Visual Arts Colorist. My passion for colors was born when I moved to France 9 years ago because it was here that I discovered color as a specialization of Applied and Visual Arts. For me, it meant a before and after and the revelation of a specialization in the arts and design for which I feel a true passion. Since I specialized as a colorist in 2018, I felt the need to share everything I knew and what I continue to learn about the wonderful world of color; that's how Archipalettes - The Color Studio was born. And without a doubt, what motivates me every day to continue doing what I do are the numerous expressions of gratitude that I receive from the people who benefit from my teachings; it is really gratifying.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My greatest achievement has undoubtedly been positioning Archipalettes as a Spanish-speaking benchmark in the color teaching sector. Currently, with so much information on the internet and on social networks, it is really difficult to stand out in any type of niche.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, there are two, in particular; the first is having to know everything because, at first, you have to do everything yourself, and this can be exhausting, but it is the best way to master each part of your business to be able to delegate in the future. And the second is knowing how to deal with uncertainty because each day and each month are completely variable in all aspects.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be very clear about your purpose or passion before launching because working on something that you truly love helps us face the difficulties that may arise along the way.
  2. Do not give up in the first or second year; certain businesses take more time than others to be profitable and successful. Many times, it is abandoned just before seeing the goal.
  3. Adapt to the constant changes involved in having an online business today, from changes in the algorithms of social networks to changes in the laws of a country.
