Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Leighann Joseph, founder of Living Loud Coaching, located in Hantsport, NS, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I teach smart, capable women who make a difference how to Drive Results and Live Joyfully. Here's what happens. Too many women feel they must choose between their happiness and commitments. I understand that, and I believe there is another way.
Learning to live and lead with intention creates stand-out leadership, a curated lifestyle, and joyful results. This is not a "Be Like Mike" program. I teach leaders a variety of tools; I share where I have had success and what I understand about struggle. Each woman decides which tools she will use and how she will work through tough emotions. What action she will take to reach the life and leadership skills she wants to curate. I love seeing each client tap into their energy, commit to action, and celebrate results.
Tell us about yourself
You know, I have had the privilege of living, working, and playing around the world in the Middle East and Africa, and that was such a blessing for me. Like many women, it is not always easy for me to know how to work my way through everything life throws at me.
This can impact our motivation, our leadership style, and our happiness. My experience living abroad led me to be more compassionate and less judgmental. It helped me find my path to success and happiness through coaching.
With coaching, my role is to remain curious about my client. Explore their current reality, understand influencing emotions, and ask questions leading to insights that frame the next steps. Clients often know what they want. What they are seeking are the tools and strategies to get them there. This is individual and personal, which is why so much of my program is client-driven. This focus keeps me motivated and inspired.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Focusing on my own personal development and learning. I am investing in my ability to work effectively as a CEO and a quality coach. The women I work with are smart and savvy. They are looking to work with a professional who is not wasting their time. I work to ensure I am that professional.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Understanding it comes with a whole host of emotions. From excitement to doubt to fear to joy, and add in another 30. Step by step, you will become more of who you truly are. You will find new solutions to old problems, you will try, try again, and one day you will be writing your overnight success post.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Begin networking, speak to entrepreneurs who dove all in, started part-time, and who will remind you it took more than a year or 5! This is about the long game.
- Understand what it will truly cost. It is easy to believe a coaching business, for example, can be next to free to operate. This isn't necessarily so, and being prepared financial gives you freedom from working in a place of need.
- Read and actively engage on LinkedIn. Are you following experts? Do you reach out to your peers? Do you share YOUR thoughts and areas of expertise? Would we recognize your voice?
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Remember, no one is sitting with a great mindset, gazing at their Vision Board, gratitude their way to 6 figures - it takes working and living with intentional strategies and tools.
