Improve Mindset - Live Better
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jason Loebig, Co-Founder of Live Better, located in Chicago, IL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Live Better is an experiential health and wellness company based in Chicago. We run domestic and international wellness retreats, which focus on both physical and mental health. We also have a kids wellness program that focuses on yoga and meditation in the classroom for grades K–6. In addition, we personally train clients 1:1 and in small group settings. Our customers range from 5 years old to 85 years old, depending on if they are Live Better Kids program participants or personal training clients of ours.
We pride our business on being "anti-niche" within the wellness industry
we have worked with Kindergarten students to professional athletes, CEOs, Fortune 50 companies, all the way to our oldest personal training client (at 85 years of age). The one common theme of each customer is they care about their personal health and wellness, and we are deeply committed to helping them on their health journey.
Tell us about yourself
I formerly worked at PWC in tax consulting and held a CPA. From there, it was a hard pivot into health coaching alongside starting Live Better about six years ago. I hold myself to the "coach-athlete" model, meaning I don't ask clients to do something I haven't done myself (at some point).
This authenticity shows in my work, how I interact with clients and retreat participants, and how I come across on social. I'm on this same journey with them! Helping someone achieve their goals and push themselves to be "better"; however, they define that motivates me each day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We just hosted our 10th wellness retreat, with three more coming in 2023. I'm really excited to help the business launch new offerings, including 1-Day Retreats around the US, in the near future!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The successes and failures are your own nothing prepares you for the wild swings in energy, clarity (or lack thereof) of direction, or motivation to get up and do the work every single day. You wear every hat (until you don't have to), and that's difficult to take on the day in and day out. That's why you must love it.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start right now. There is never a better time, and it'll never be a perfect time.
- Develop a personal "board of advisors" of people you can rely on to give you the hard truths, support and encourage you, and pick you up when you're down.
- Trust your intuition. You're doing this for a reason.
