Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jamie Handy, Owner of Little Lite Candle Co LLC., located in Peru, IN, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Little Lite Candle Co is a veteran-owned company that manufactures soy and beeswax blended candles and melts. Our candles are natural in color and contain 11% fragrance, which is more than most, which contain only 6%. A wick made of hemp is dipped in beeswax for an even burn and a reduction in soot.
Customers who purchase our candles appreciate their ambiance and the quality and safety they offer.
Tell us about yourself
I realized how many candles I had burnt one day as I looked around my house. My desire to find a high-quality, chemical-free soy candle led me to create Little Lite Candle Co. It is my passion for candles and my customers that keep me motivated each day. Getting to know our customers and hearing how much they love our candles is one of my favorite aspects of my job.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Our candles are my biggest accomplishment. Through trial and error, we managed to create the highest quality candle made from white beeswax and soy. These ingredients are both renewable and biodegradable. From the wick to the wax, everything about our candles is natural.
With our candles, you will find organic hemp wicks, fragrances that do not contain phthalates, and no dyes. You will enjoy the pleasant aroma that comes from our candles, which contain between 10 and 11% fragrance. According to our knowledge, we are the only soy candles with organic hemp wicks.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
As a business owner, finding the time to do all the tasks required is the most challenging.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
In order of importance, here are the three most important tips I would give someone considering starting their own business:
- Make sure you take time for yourself and your family/sponsor.
- Don't be afraid to take risks. You probably need to make a few changes if you feel comfortable where you are. There is always a level of fear involved in anything worth doing.
- You will never be able to please everyone, so don't try. The reality is that some people will never be happy, so stay focused on your dreams, not theirs.
