Creating Art That Elevates and Inspires - Lisa Winston

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fine arts but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisa Winston, Founder and Artist at Lisa Winston Fine Art, located in New Braunfels, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an artist (watercolor, fluid art, and abstract acrylics), and I serve people of all ages and gender; however, the majority of my customers are female, between the ages of 30 and 60.

Tell us about yourself

I've been an artist my entire life, a pro-vocalist for over 40 years, and a coach for 8. After collapsing from neuro-Lyme disease in 2019, followed by the pandemic, I decided to dissolve my coaching business (it had stopped being enjoyable in more recent years) to do ONLY what I love, which is creating a high vibe, intuitive art that elevates and inspires. At 62, I realized life is too short to do anything else! My motivation is constant flowing creativity and ideas I must act on (passion) and the desire to bring joy to and leave a legacy for my daughter and the world.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is that I GET TO do all the things I always wanted to...like writing a #1 international best-selling book, co-hosting an amazing TV show for several years, speaking onstage and virtually around the globe, meeting wonderful influential people (including my life partner, Dr. Joe Vitale) and making a difference. When you own your own business, the world is truly your oyster!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The most difficult thing that comes with owning your own business is moving forward after rejection and/or failure. It's imperative to understand that "failure" is really an opportunity in disguise. Everyone fails. Look at people like Edison, Einstein, Walt Disney, J.K. Rowling (and so many more)...who failed over and over in their lives and businesses. Because they never gave up, they became resilient and eventually succeeded. Life is tough. Business is tough. YOU need to be tougher!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be ready and willing to "go all in," no matter what. No giving up! (It's called commitment!)
  2. Have a crystal clear vision of what you want to do. You may not know how you're going to get there initially, but your vision and passion will lead you. One step at a time.
  3. Always delegate and have lots of support in the way of a partner, team, coach, community, and people who can help you with your mindset. You WILL need to lean on all of them.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

The biggest thing I've learned is that you need to be clear about what your passion is (that thing that lights you up and fuels you) and then commit to creating a business around it. Often times we take years of detours along the path because we think we can't possibly create a business around doing what we love. I believed that about my art and many times sabotaged my efforts. It took me a long time to realize I didn't want to do anything else! In reality, passion IS what creates prosperity! Passion-purpose-prosperity. When you do what you love, and your heart is lit up more times than not, the path is so much easier! And certainly more enjoyable. :)
