Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisa Alioto, Founder of Breakthrough Coaching Beyond, LLC, located in Woodbury, MN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Careers enrich our daily lives, and I found I have both a passion and talent for helping people progress in their careers at an accelerated rate. As a certified career coach, I love working with entry-level clients up to executives shooting for the stars in a wide variety of industries.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a lawyer by trade, but being a certified coach has my heart! My dream job is to help my clients find and thrive in their dream job! It's a tough market out there. Hiring me as your career coach can give you that competitive edge that can turn an interview into an optimal offer.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishments have been in helping clients find success in their career journey. I have been lucky as a career coach to see this happen again and again with my clients. It's perhaps most exciting when a client comes to me that has been job hunting for months (or even years). After working together, they find themselves in the position of having multiple offers to choose from!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The fluctuating market is one of the hardest things about being a business owner in the career coaching industry. It's a very competitive market, and an applicant needs every advantage they can get. Being creative and flexible in how I offer my services so that every applicant out there has the opportunity to work with a career coach has been key to my success.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be ready! Have your key business documents prepared before you launch. The more you can prepare ahead of time (business contracts, business cards, receipt forms, your logo, etc..), the more professional and seamless your launch will be.
  2. Be okay with the ebb and flow of business. Trust during the slow times that they won't last forever. Use the time to build out other parts of your business (new marketing strategies, website, etc..).
  3. Service: Exceptional service is the standard in today's market to maintain growth and strong business. Make sure to give every client the personal touch and exceed their expectations.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Have fun! Love what you do and you will be sure to please your clients! And don't be afraid to ask for reviews - a good review speaks volumes.
