What's your business, and who are your customers?
I run a small mental health and wellness company based on incorporating art into everyday healing, helping anyone that has experienced trauma or abuse heal with joy.
Tell us about yourself
If you had asked me this five years ago, I wouldn't have thought I would be alive today. Suicidal ideation can be quite intense when you are trying to recover from the past, and therapy tends to leave you wondering, "How do I even implement what I am learning into my life? I create products that help people integrate psychology into tiny everyday healing that also allows joy.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is that I have helped almost 400,000 souls find each other by creating a community that feels very much like family. We are the LionHeart family. I have been told over 400 times that the lessons that my therapy boxes teach, as well as the art I create, have helped them decide not to take their lives.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest part for me is not being able, financially, to give away boxes to those in need. It is pretty tricky for me, as it is with most souls that grew up abused, to say no, so not having the resources to gift those struggling is very difficult for me. I started a tiny scholarship fund and hoped to grow it as I built the business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
If you asked me how to start a business, I would suggest you make sure your heart and soul are in the purpose of the company you are starting, secure a lawyer to help you write policy, and make sure to be gracious with yourself as you learn.
