Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lindsey Paoli, Founder and CEO of Fundamental Health with Lindsey Paoli, LTD., located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is helping high achievers to make mental health their greatest asset instead of their hidden downfall. I work with individuals or teams through coaching, training, and consulting to more efficiently manage their mental performance more. My mission is to make mental education common knowledge and easy-to-implement on a daily basis through my signature MIND Fundamental Formula, where you understand how prioritizing mental health daily is truly the key to greater success, healthier relationships, and better overall health.

Tell us about yourself

Having worked in the corporate world as a high achiever myself and suffering from burnout, anxiety, and depression without even recognizing what they were are what ultimately has led me to create my business. Once I was aware of the cause behind my lack of focus, my start and stop motivation, and the feelings of isolation that I experienced in always trying to show that I had everything under control, I recognized how many of my peers also operated the same way without the knowledge of what it was and even less understanding of how to live and perform better. I went to grad school to become a therapist, but during the pandemic saw how unhelpful and overwhelming the mental health system was. So I turned my focus to my own experience and began what I call a "proactive top-down" approach where those with the most success and influence learn to model and require healthier mental habits, better teaching those under them how to do the same. I'm motivated every day to help others, knowing that my work directly impacts our current mental health crisis in a way that the mental health industry is simply incapable of doing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment thus far was becoming a best-selling author last year!! I co-authored the book "Living a Legacy" with 17 of my closest female entrepreneur friends. Simply by taking the time to share our stories of why we chose to do the work we do and how we choose to live our lives, we reached #1 in nine categories on Amazon, including Employment Advice, Work-Life Balance, and Women in Business. It's something that I'm so incredibly proud of, but also just the start! I have so many other big plans in the works for the next couple of years!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being a business owner is HARD! I think the hardest thing is that every decision is up to me. I was great at being told what to do and how to do it and even improving upon the systems that had been given to me. But now, every system starts with me, and it's an inevitable journey of trial and error that can be exhausting and is not for the faint of heart.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Your business' success (or lack thereof) will always be a reflection of the personal work that you're choosing to do--or not. This sounds like a pitch for my work, but honestly, it's simply my own experience and what I repeatedly see with clients. Take care of yourself, get curious about your patterns, prioritize self-growth, and ALWAYS make time for personal development, and your business will thrive.
  2. Stop learning and start doing. Business means taking risks. The sooner you allow yourself to start trying and failing, the sooner you will start finding the things that DO work. No book or business coach can teach you what personal experience can.
  3. I learned this one the hard way: Always hire the more qualified and expensive option rather than trying to stay on a more "comfortable" budget and train someone less qualified. Your time as a business owner is your most valuable asset, and a new employee should buy you more of THAT, even if it costs more money.
