Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lindai Loutun, founder of Lindai's Bodywork, located in Brooklyn, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Lindai's Bodywork provides high-quality bodywork, energy healing, and aromatherapy services with a holistic approach, ranging from Traditional Thai Yoga Massage, Reiki, 13th Octave LaHoChi and the Raindrop Technique. Services can be experienced by themselves or combined. Our customers range from dancers, martial artists, authors, musicians, work in an office, construction, entertainment/film, basically from very physically demanding jobs to a more sedentary lifestyle, all with the goal to live a healthier and pain-free life. Another important part of the business is to educate and teach these healing modalities so that people have the tools for their own self-care and don't have to rely on a practitioner. The vision is to empower people to take care of themselves!
Tell us about yourself
My passion has always been to help people become a better version of themselves - healthier and more balanced in all areas of their life! I regard the body, mind, and soul as one unit – if one element is out of balance, so is the rest. In order to keep this unit in balance, we need to nurture our soul, mind and body alike. Restoring balance can be achieved by working on each of these elements, as they go hand in hand, influencing one another. My goal as a bodyworker, energy healer and health coach is to help restore this balance on a physical and energetic level through various modalities. Thai Yoga Massage, Reiki, Aromatherapy and other healing modalities are used to achieve this.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Every time a client leaves my studio pain-free and with a renewed sense of what health means to them, I feel grateful and accomplished. The daily, consistent successes are my biggest accomplishment and what keeps me motivated to do the work I do with passion!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
You get used to wearing many different hats in order to run your business, especially in the beginning stages when you don't have the extra capital to outsource tasks and are still trying to figure out how to streamline everything best to maximize efficiency. Unpredictability, however, will always be part of the business; there are busy weeks and slow weeks. You may go from feeling overwhelmed to how am I going to make this work long-term? There is always a sense of uncertainty with the up and downswings affecting the performance of the business. However, this makes it exciting as it keeps you on your toes and forces you to be innovative and observe the trends and consumer behavior.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Never give up, be passionate about your work and surround yourself with other business owners whom you can learn from. Learning from entrepreneurs that have built successful businesses will give you different perspectives and help you think outside the box.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
No matter what profession you are in, keep learning and expanding your horizon - with this, you will never run out of ideas on how to improve your business while sharpening your skills!
