Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nihal Ahmed, founder, and CEO of Limitless Institute, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Limitless is where we help people be the best versions of themselves intellectually, emotionally, and purposefully - so you can lead a more prosperous, healthier, happier, and impactful life. We do this through meticulously crafted workshops, programs, experiences, games products, toolkits, apps, and rich media.

Imagine this as a decentralized education institution to teach you everything that the mainstream didn't - like discovering your passion and purpose, starting your own business, learning to solve creative problems, building meaningful relationships, making friends with money, and enhancing your wellbeing through habits and rituals and more. We work with children, students, working professionals, organizations of different kinds, communities, and even seniors.

Tell us about yourself

My journey started when I was 18. I was frustrated that schools didn't leave any room for self-discovery and creativity to permeate. This created a situation where most of us feel unfulfilled, confused, and stressed. It stops us from growing, and we're stuck with someone else's plan for our life.

I realized that there are three questions that plague most young people:

  • What am I passionate about? (What makes me truly come alive?)
  • How do I be successful? (What do I need to learn to thrive in the next 10-20 years?)
  • Where do I start? (How can I do something about it?) And over the last 12 years, I have actively worked on answering these three questions in as many interactive ways and for as many diverse groups of people as possible.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Running multiple verticals in a lean way successfully. Bootstrapped throughout and managed to work with multiple customer segments - from large governments and large public sector organizations like The World Bank to young infants and marginalized companies and people in between.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The loneliness. Having the right people/companion around you to take a part of the journey with you and give you counsel, not just on your business but also personally, can go a long way. This can help avoid burnout too.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make the business an extension of your personality. Don't be opportunistic. Build a purpose-driven company. Because, on the rough days (and there will be rough days), the deep passion you have for the business will pull you through.
  2. Record everything - metrics, standard operating procedures, and learnings and organize them well.
  3. Keep learning every day. Proactively. Build your own learning stack.
