What's your business, and who are your customers?

My name is Christiana. I am the founder of Lifted Co. we provide love and light through all products, one scent at a time.

I've always been around candles and incense all my life. Not most people talk about it, but after having a child, you have to find yourself again and not forget who you are. I struggled for a while until I asked the universe what my purpose in life was, and it came to me all things that smell good. Aha, a light turned on. I wanted to start my business making candles and everything that falls in the same lane.

I love things that smell good and always smell good, so I thought, why not? This is something you love, let's do it, and that is how Lifted Co. was birthed. I'm also tapping into myself, so that is where the holistic side comes in with things such as sage, palo santo, and chakras.

I have always loved helping people when they are in need. I have good communication skills that have allowed me to understand my peer's needs. With this skill, I have understood the importance of aftercare during pregnancy and postpartum. Through my battles with my version of postpartum (everyone's is different) and childbirth, I saw a gap that needed to be filled.

Self-care is the answer; through Lifted Co, I can connect with other mothers and everyone about the importance of self-care. Some products, such as candles, room sprays, and bath bombs, create the perfect atmosphere for some much-needed TLC.

Tell us about yourself

Lifted Co. was birthed after having my first son in 2020, and I later went on to have my other son in June of 2022. I am still on my journey chasing my goals in life. I can recall my battles with postpartum (everyone's is different) and childbirth. I saw a gap that needed to be filled.

According to Penn Medicine in Philadelphia in 2020,non-Hispanic Black women are about four times more likely to die of pregnancy-related causes than non-Hispanic White women. The local statistics also align with national data.

A light turned on for me. This is how she could help. This is something she is passionate about. Self-care is one of the remedies, and through Lifted Co. I can connect with other mothers and everyone from all walks of life about the importance of self-care and wellness.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, every accomplishment counts, and feels great when you know the business is growing or progressing. My biggest accomplishment, I would say, is opening my business. Within less than one year, I could obtain multiple wholesale accounts that would spread the word and products worldwide.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is staying consistent and not falling into the creator's rut.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The top 3 tips I would give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today are:

  1. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH. I can't stress this enough: make sure to research any company you are entering. Also, understand that research is never done!
  2. Don't worry about how this company got big and how they did it. Understand that everyone started from the beginning and how much you BELIEVE in yourself and your business is how far/big it will be.
  3. One main thing is being ORGANIZED. To achieve business success, you need to be organized. If you aren't organized, get organized! Whether it's keeping track of how much inventory you have or keeping track of essential business operations.
