Helps Students Identify Career Paths - Lifestyle Learning
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Paris Gamble, Co-Founder of Lifestyle Learning, located in Edmond, OK, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Lifestyle Learning creates innovative products to better prepare students for careers and post-secondary academic success. We also look to stimulate interest in STEM careers. Our customers are k12, higher education, and consumers.
Tell us about yourself
Lifestyle Learning and the concept of Career Navideer (our flagship product) began in my attempt to talk to my 16-year-old son about what he wanted to do with his life. During my conversation with him, I observed that by focusing on how he wanted to live, I could focus his attention on occupations that would allow him to live “his” way. It allowed me to have a non-threatening conversation about his future and how education (specifically math and science) could play a part. I am motivated by seeing and hearing how our products impact individual lives. Our goal is to provide those from marginalized and underrepresented communities with the tools to succeed.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Taking on a business partner. I worked on this company and these products for ten years by myself. Taking on a business partner with a "grander" vision has allowed the company to grow in ways I did not think of. Our partnership is a GREAT fit. He provides the Vision, and I provide the Magic.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
You are responsible for everything. Collections, marketing, sales, support, everything. You have to be able to shift from task to task depending on what is the priority of the minute.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- If you have the capital, use contracted resources from a platform like Upwork. They have professionals at every cost who can do some of the things you need at a quicker pace.
- Pay attention to the details. Your business represents you. Details can make or break a deal or a recommendation.
- Find some balance. You must take some time for yourself and the people you love. It will keep you sane.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
It is much more difficult to start a business in an area you are not an expert. Before doing so, go to conferences, and trade shows, talk to people, and do your research!
