Intuitive Eating - Lifelong Wellness Goals
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Taylor Wilcox, Founder of Lifelong Wellness Goals, LLC, located in Portland, MI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Lifelong Wellness Goals is a well-being company that believes you can truly be healthy at any size. I take a non-diet approach to healthy eating - one where there's no restriction or guilt involved! Those who work with me have dieted or struggled with disordered eating habits for years of their life and know this isn't the key to health or the way they want to eat anymore. However, they also come to me feeling out of control around food and are not sure where to turn next to feel confident in their eating habits when they know dieting doesn't truly work in the long run. Together, we work through the Intuitive Eating principles and apply them to their own lives to help them create a guilt-free relationship with food where they feel confident in themselves and their foods.
Tell us about yourself
I've been a registered dietitian for two years but have always had an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age. I went into the field as a dietitian working for an outpatient cardiac rehab program for my first year. Still, I ultimately decided I wanted to be my own boss, create my own hours and do the work I truly felt passionate about. When I decided to start, I was so scared, but I had been thinking about it for a while, and I knew it would take me longer to build it up if I didn't start. The women I work with who I witness gain so much confidence and freedom around food through the process truly motivate me. Plus, knowing each day I'm growing more by putting myself out there motivates me because I truly want to inspire and reach even more women who need this kind of support.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The biggest accomplishment for me personally is the confidence I've gained from being a business owner. It's not easy, and there are days when I question what I'm doing. But overall, being able to see ideas that I have come to life and then seeing those real-life ideas help other people is an accomplishment for me.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The mental battles that come up on top of an organization. There are SO many things you can work on each day as a business owner, which can feel scary and overwhelming at times. But figuring out what tasks to prioritize that bring actual revenue into the business what hard for me, at least in the beginning when I was still trying to figure it out (and still currently am, there's always something new to learn)
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Big goals and dreams are great to have but make sure you also come up with a plan to reach them.
- Don't give up. You'll be amazed what can happen over time when you work even a little towards your goals each day.
- INVEST!! If you've never been to business school, like most RDs have not, invest in a marketing/business coach. It may feel scary to put that much money into something, but it will likely always pay you back if you put in the work.
