Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in home care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Balbina Dabrowski, COO of Life Maid Easy, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a residential cleaning company specializing in customized maid service and move-in/move-out cleaning. Our customers are busy young professionals that need help around the home so that they can get out there and enjoy their limited free time.

Tell us about yourself

There are many cleaning companies out there, but we saw an opportunity to offer more than just cleaning. Exceptional customer service and treating our clients like family has allowed us to step apart from our competition. Our clients trust us in the sacred space, their home. Helping our clients achieve a healthy work-life balance and creating a zen and refreshing space for them to relax gives us the utmost joy.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

By moving into a franchise model, we have been able to offer amazing opportunities to our franchise partners that may not have known where to start. Supporting these entrepreneurs as they spread the joy of a clean home around the country has been very rewarding

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Pushing through the hard times with a positive attitude. The pandemic really tested a lot of business owners. Coming up with ways to pivot and diversify your offering to adapt to change is crucial. At Life Maid Easy, for example, we realized that although there was a lot of fear amongst our clients, there was also a heightened need for cleaning and disinfecting. We began to offer additional services and quickly sourced high in demand PPE and new tools to help keep our customers safe during a scary time. We actually saw growth during a time when many businesses, unfortunately, had to shut their doors.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

It's very important to have the right people that share your vision with you on your journey, many skills can be taught, but passion and the right mindset are what matter most. Taking the time to connect with your client base at all stages of the customer journey. For example, at Life Maid Easy, we personally reach out to each client after their appointment to ensure the quality of service and to take action on any suggestions or feedback they may have. Good or bad, it always lends to our growth. Keep your staff's happiness as a top priority, and they will be your most proud and loud brand ambassadors.
