What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a freelance copy and content writer. I work mostly on blog and article writing producing SEO-optimized content and engaging copy for specialist websites.
Tell us about yourself
I wanted a job where I could be my motivation and my discipline, where success is my success, and the progress is all my own. I started seeking out my own clients and trying my hand at a few different areas of work to see what would get me going. It gave me the opportunity to hone my skills and see where I could excel and where I needed to work.
Every day brings a new opportunity to learn, a new client with whom I can begin a working relationship, and another way to improve my writing and work.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Getting my feet on the ground and meeting my first clients. Self-doubt is inherent with self-employed freelance work, so the validation of meeting and satisfying your first clients is a fantastic feeling. The pleasure of a job well done never really goes away.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Time management for me has always been a struggle. I have a habit of overworking and forgetting to switch off. I enjoy my work, so it often doesn't feel like a chore but personal time away from the business is essential.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Get involved, get out there and give it a try. You'll never know until you give it a go. Start off small with little jobs, get your confidence up, and then jump in with both feet.
