Accountability and Results - Level Up
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Ellen Reed, Co-Founder of Level Up, located in St. Louis, MO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a performance coach, and I work with all types of people on developing and achieving their goals, but most importantly, improving their lives. My clients include professional and Olympic athletes, business leaders, student-athletes, and anyone else wanting to make improvements in their lives. My colleague Dr. Jason Selk and I have spent years of research and practice developing the most effective framework out there. Our clients experience incredible results, and we have always been driven by helping as many people as we can. What we are most excited about now is our new masterclass plus training app called Level Up. This app allows us to effectively offer our coaching to people who wouldn’t normally have access to it at a fraction of the price. It has been a game-changer for so many people, and we feel so lucky to have been approached by the right partners to bring it to life.
Tell us about yourself
I have always been interested in people and what drives them. Through school, I split my time between dancing (I recently retired from a 12-year-long professional dancing career) and academics. Most of my career was spent coaching clients while being a professional athlete/artist myself, so I’ve had a first-hand account of where high-level performers both struggle and excel. I have an amazing husband and two awesome little boys. My sons’ description of what Mom does for a living is “helping people make their dreams come true.” I love that they are learning how rewarding it is to help others.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
This will sound incredibly cliche, but my accomplishments come in the form of the little emails, texts, or messages we get from people telling us the impact our book, app, or coaching has had on their lives.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The biggest obstacle to success I see is that most people are trying to do too much and, by default, not prioritizing what is most important. As a business owner, athlete, and parent (fill in the blank), you MUST learn to prioritize what is most important and stay consistent on nailing that every day.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Be sure to start with your WHY and your priorities. I am not about sacrificing your personal life or your relationships, even in the short term, for your professional life. That is not sustainable and not how I would define success. You can have it all; you just need a winning game plan. Our coaching and our app walk you through EXACTLY how to do this. People really like to complicate success, but it is actually very simple.
