Handcrafted Cheesy Boards Made With Love - Let's Talk Cheese
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Khushbu Mistry, Founder of Let's Talk Cheese, located in Detroit, MI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm in the business of cheese and all things Charcuterie! Let's Talk Cheese offers Grazing/Charcuterie Tables, Charcuterie Board orders for every occasion, and Charcuterie Workshops! My customers are anyone in the Metro Detroit area that loves Cheese!
Tell us about yourself
Let's Talk Cheese originally started as just an inspiration page on Instagram for fun which was then called "Kushsscheese." Originally I had dabbled in charcuterie boards for fun and found it therapeutic to do for family/friends while handling my Wedding Planning company before COVID. I needed an escape from the everyday stress from work. During COVID, I had completely lost my company, and a family member had suggested I take a chance and post a Facebook AD selling charcuterie boards for Mother's Day. To my surprise, I received 26 orders in just two days! The business quickly took off from then, and I found my new true passion.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is creating a thriving business from something I never thought would become the biggest part of my life.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
As a business owner, it may sound simple, but it has changed my life in more ways than one. After COVID, I learned to PAUSE. Pause means I looked at my mistakes, accepted them, and learned that every day is a new day to be better. Before COVID, I was someone that was very panicky. COVID was truly a blessing in disguise; it taught me that no matter what happens, things will work out in the end. This has been a true game-changer for my mental health.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The top three tips I would give to anyone looking to start a business today are:
- Find a Mentor - I started my wedding planning company when I was 22 and was too proud to realize I needed someone to guide me. I made a lot of mistakes that I, of course, learned from and made me better, but I feel that with the proper mentor, I would have cut my mistakes in half.
- MEET EVERYONE - no matter what business you are in, you need to connect with the world. You never know who you will meet and how you will be able to help each other. Connections are key to building a business. I am very much an introvert, it took me a while to come out of my shell, but once I did, I met some of the greatest people in business.
- Looking to start a business but not sure what it is? Take a look at your talents and hobbies that you think are small. I would have NEVER thought of starting a charcuterie business but incredibly happy that I gave it a chance. Get out of your shell and share your smaller talents with the world; there is a market for EVERYTHING!
