Next Step to Self- Dismantling - Let Me Introduce Yourself
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alyssa McMasteres, Owner of Let Me Introduce Yourself, located in Calgary, AB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Let Me Introduce Yourself is an organization designed to help women increase their confidence and love of themselves through one-on-one mentoring, workshops, and keynote speeches. Many people like to believe "when" statements. "When I lose weight, I will be beautiful." "When I get a partner, I will be loveable." "When I get the promotion, I will be confident in my skills."
I heard these statements from myself and the people around me, and we continued to wait for the "when." The women around me and I would lose weight and be shocked that we still didn't like what we saw in the mirror. We would get the promotion but not feel worthy or successful enough. It was when I realized that we need to change our inner dialogue, let go of society's standards, and develop daily self-love practices to see real change in our confidence.
External changes will likely not change how we feel about ourselves until we do the inner work. This is why I started Let Me Introduce Yourself. I wanted to help the women around me find their self-love from within and understand that they were worthy of love and respect regardless of external factors. That they were enough just being who they were and didn't need anything to validate that.
I first started with friends, who turned into their friends, and so on, and I have now helped a large network of women see themselves for who they truly are: amazing. Confidence comes more naturally to some people, but it is also a skill that can be refined and mastered. Originally, I developed and learned these skills through my own experiences in dating, relationships, discordant eating, body image issues, and trauma, including sexual assault, birth trauma, anxiety, and depression.
As I continued to support more and more clients in their confidence journeys, I received my confidence coach accreditation and am currently enrolled in my trauma awareness training and my emotional intelligence coach accreditation. My goal for Let Me Introduce Yourself and, quite frankly, my life mission is to help women see themselves as the beautiful, talented, unique, and kind individuals they are and change their focus away from their insecurities and towards their self-love.
My clients consist of self-identifying women and girls who are looking for guidance on their confidence journey. With women, I specialize in confidence in body image, confidence in the workplace, confidence in motherhood, and confidence in relationships. With girls, I specialize in confidence in body issues, confidence in social media comparison, and confidence in setting relationship boundaries.
Tell us about yourself
My mission is to inspire and train women to let go of society's standards, live a life that feels authentic to them, and increase their self-love by 1% each day. The spark that started Let Me Introduce Yourself developed in a car dealership. I was purchasing a car, walked into the dealership, and told the sales specialist what I wanted and how much I was going to spend. I signed my papers and got exactly what I was asking for. As we were shaking hands, my sales specialist asked me, "Can you teach my daughters to be as confident as you?" I thought about it and said, "Yes, I can," and Let Me Introduce Myself began.
Each day I work with women to teach them how to ask for what they want and understand they deserve respect. Their stories and milestones are what motivates me to continue my work. I continue to learn more through the new people I meet, the new professionals I work with, the new courses I take, and my new experiences.
In 2022, I became a mother to a beautiful baby boy named Logan. In this transition into motherhood, I learned and developed principles that increased my confidence in my new body, my intuition, and my abilities. I have brought confidence in motherhood into my teachings and have seen beautiful outcomes with my clients.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Every time I see a woman or girl walk into my space, walking a little taller than the session before that is my biggest accomplishment. When a woman or girl comes to a workshop, and I see them speaking more than they did in the workshop before, that is my biggest accomplishment.
Each time I receive a message telling me how my work has helped someone step into their authentic lives that is my biggest accomplishment. Every time I see someone increase their confidence, whether it is in their body image, their motherhood, their career, or their relationships, I know Let Me Introduce Yourself is making the world a better place, and that is my greatest accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
As small business owners, half our job is managing the business. accounting, time management; marketing; and networking. Managing all of these priorities, along with working with my clients, can be challenging. In the next couple of years, I am hoping to outsource some of the business management so I can spend more time doing what I love, helping women and girls with their confidence.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Stay on top of marketing trends and be an early adopter. Right now, YouTube Shorts is growing in popularity and provides a great opportunity to receive a lot of interaction with your videos!
- Repurpose your marketing content at least eight times. Content is hard and time-consuming, so why not use it in many different areas? When I create a video, blog, or story, I repost it on the following: Instagram Reels, Instagram Story, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, My Website, Tik Tok, and my email mailing list. Take time to look at the analytics to see what content works best for each medium, but as you are starting your content journey, post it everywhere!
- PIVOT! Your clients will tell you what they are looking for, and your thoughts might not align with their needs. Originally, I assumed most of my clients would be women who wanted to focus on body image issues; however, my clientele has ended up being half teenage girls who need support as they find who they are and develop confidence along the way. Have a clear vision, but allow your clients' needs to pivot your business.
