What's your business, and who are your customers?
Legacy First Partners, LLC is a family office focused on real estate investment management and social justice media aimed at helping to achieve equity and economic empowerment for people from underserved populations.
Tell us about yourself
I am an award-winning impact media maker. My mission is to leverage the powerful intersection of media and social justice to help achieve equity and economic empowerment for people from underserved populations.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think I am most proud of the impact of my most recent documentary project, Reimagining Freedom West. It is a short documentary film narrated by acclaimed actor and humanitarian Danny Glover that shines the spotlight on a historic black community’s struggle in the Fillmore district of San Francisco as they fight to save their homes against gentrification and rising economic inequality in the city. I wrote, produced, and directed the film. It has won several prestigious awards, including the Better Communities Award at the United Nations’ Habitat Better Cities Film Festival in Katowice, Poland. Award of Excellence, and Award of Excellence Special Mention from The Best Shorts Film Competition in Los Angeles and Best Director Debut at the Snow Leopard International Film Festival in Madrid, Spain.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is learning how to turn off work mode at the end of the day.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Learn how to prioritize the most important aspects of your work and focus on those things each day.
- Break larger and more difficult tasks down into smaller parts, so you do not get overwhelmed.
- Remember to take time to reflect and ask for help when necessary.
