Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Leena Alsulaiman, a Personal Stylist and Fashion Brand consultant based in Orinda, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Mentor and Coach on all things Life, Mindset, and Business. I'm skilled in the art of seeing and guiding. I provide comprehensive support to help women build the life and career they desire, tailored to their values, needs, and style of expression. My approach is to actively listen and observe, understand the client's perspective, and provide guidance accordingly. I then enable them to build on their own terms and at their own pace.

Tell us about yourself

As a young girl growing up in Saudi Arabia, I always gravitated towards things' creative side. My parents encouraged that. Reflecting on my diverse career history, I see that designing and creating is something I have always done in one form or another.

For many years, I took the path of a creative entrepreneur. I unconsciously always brought a side of creativity to my roles. While that was my "day job," my passion led me to color outside the lines. I offered my expertise and knowledge to women starting their ventures, growing their brands, or making career moves. In my consultancy, I created a business model in which I cater to my passions by creating a platform to serve women by creating magic through their brands and powers.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Every single woman that I work with that then goes out and achieves the big things that have lived in her heart and mind is my biggest accomplishment. My success metric is client loyalty, satisfaction, and brand awareness.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Balance is a tricky concept, and even more so for a female business owner. The best way I find to look at it is that life is never 100% in balance. The scales are constantly tipping one way more than the other, and it all comes down to compromise and priorities. So be mindful of the time you are giving to the side hustle and that it doesn't overtake family time. Build your business around your life, not the other way around.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be clear on your why - Knowing why you are starting and what your goals are will help you stay the course and not lose track.
  2. Prioritize your time - Decide how much time you can dedicate to your new business, create a schedule that you can stick to, and maintain as much balance as you can.
  3. Start small and be careful not to go into debt. - Many businesses fail because they go into debt and spend more money than they can bring in.
