What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is named Thomas Therapy Services, and I serve individuals who are seeking talk therapy for mental health support.

Tell us about yourself

I have been working in the field of social work for a little over ten years, and once I acquired my LICSW, I entered the private practice arena with an existing private practice. During COVID, I wanted to have more control over the quality of care my clients were receiving, so I branched out and created my LLC.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I wake up every day grateful to be my own boss. Also, I believe it’s a privilege to work with my clients in the capacity I do. I’m proud to have created a resource for people to use that helps them navigate their human experience.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I don’t think there’s any one thing that is classifiable as a “struggle,” but there are a lot of things to keep track of, like billing, claims, compliance, documentation, and quarterly taxes.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Make sure you have a team to help sustain the “less fun” parts of running a business, like a CPA, liability insurance, and a legal team. Also, automate as much as you can. It keeps things so much more streamlined.
