Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Leah Stine, a copywriter and content writer based in Locust Grove, VA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My copywriting business is Leah Stine Writing. I help service-based women entrepreneurs attract, nurture, and convert their dream clients so they can enjoy the rewards of consistency and visibility without spending another second in the content and copywriting time suck.
Tell us about yourself
When I first started my business, it was with the goal of helping supplement my husband's income. I started as a Virtual Assistant type of business, and I was the jack of all trades. If I didn't know how to do it, I would figure it out! Then about two years ago, I realized that I was burnt out, hating what I was doing, and I was barely making enough to pay the electric bill! This is when I hired a coach and dug deep into what I truly wanted and where I really wanted to be in life.
I have been a copywriter adding in all of these other random tasks for years because I didn't know my worth, and I was scared of what would happen if I dove in. Two years ago, I dove in. I leaped and haven't looked back! I pivoted my business to offer only writing services. I started with podcast repurposing and have pivoted and added services as I went because I have found the things that I am good at and confident in, and that makes working not seem like work!
Every day I am motivated to create the life we want. Homeschooling our three kids to match my husband's work hours worked for a long time, but my goals are now to build a life where he doesn't have to work as many crazy hours as a Chef. We are building our homestead and working toward the goal of owning more land. This is what motivates me to wake up before the kids every single day and build my business.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is building my business how I want it and ignoring all of the outside 'noise' of what it should or shouldn't look like.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I think my biggest obstacle is ignoring everybody's opinions.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Just do it! Leap and don't look back.
- Trust yourself. Only you know what you really want your business to look like.
- If something doesn't work, don't toss the whole idea. Make tweaks to it and do it again. This way, you don't have to start from scratch every time.
