What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm a social media and content creation specialist. I help ambitious business owners and entrepreneurs to scale their businesses and to position themselves online as the go-to authority in their own industry so that they have more impact, income, and freedom in their lives. I do this through numerous ways, including, one on one and group coaching, face-to-face workshops, speaking at events, and webinars. I also have a number of online courses.
Tell us about yourself
After finishing University with a degree in marketing, I worked my way up the corporate ladder for ten years in various marketing and business development roles but kept thinking there was something out there I should be doing. I decided I no longer wanted to work building other people's businesses, so I took that leap of faith and started out on my own. This was ten years ago now, and I can honestly say I have never looked back. Every day I get up excited about my work and the limitless opportunities out there. You've just got to keep putting yourself out there, and amazing things will and do happen!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I have had some amazing opportunities to date, which have included speaking on stage Internationally and at various conferences on all things social media. I really love speaking on stage. It's a real passion of mine! I also loved being involved in a worldwide live stream of 134 of the world's leading SEO, online advertising, and social media gurus (I was so chuffed to have been asked!), and my contribution has now been published in a book, Marketing Now by David Bain! Plus, I have won 4 business awards to date, which makes me so proud and is an attribute to my successes to date.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
As a business owner, it's certainly difficult trying to balance the responsibilities of managing the day-to-day operations of the business while also trying to grow and expand and find some time for my personal life too! There is often a lot of pressure to succeed, which affects the work/life balance. Additionally, dealing with unexpected challenges, such as economic downturns or changes in the market, can also be difficult for business owners. I think we can all agree it's been a very challenging few years!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Firstly, I would urge you to understand your market and target audience. Conduct thorough market research to gain a deep understanding of your target audience and the needs of your customers. This will help you create products or services that meet the needs of your target market and position your business for success.
Second, I would say be prepared for the unexpected. Running a business is not always a smooth journey, so be prepared for unexpected situations, try to have contingency plans ready, be flexible and be open to pivoting your business if necessary.
And finally, be open to learning. Starting and running a business requires a wide range of skills and knowledge, and it's important to be open to learning and continuously improving. Stay up to date with the latest developments in your industry, learn from your mistakes and be willing to adapt your strategies as needed.
