Golden Touch Health & Wealth - Laurel Goulden-James
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Laurel Goulden-James, Founder of Golden Touch Health & Wealth, located in Brandon, MB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a certified BodyMind Life and Business Coach who works (mostly) with women to build and strengthen their confidence and boundaries muscles. I often start with midlife women who are at the "now me, now what" stage and then am often referred to their daughters or people they mentor to help them shortcut the years of people pleasing and overwhelm that my original clients went through! The transition that occurs with my people is truly an honour to witness and makes my job truly heart-centered and laser-focused.
Tell us about yourself
I have been an osteopathic massage therapist for 25 years, and one thing I know to be true is that the body tells a story. Several years ago, my body had to scream at me for me to hear my story, which resulted in surgeries to reconstruct my lower leg. I had to redefine myself with the possibility of not being able to do the physical job that I had known for 20 years (at that time). After a few tough lessons about the online business world, I discovered the benefit of coaching. I realized that I had a gift with my hands and my words and that I had been coaching my clients for years, so I made a move to formalize and certify it. I still do hands-on work with my in-person clients. I work with people virtually 1:1 and in groups and have recently started doing in-person events and masterclasses on Mindset in business, relationships, and life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I would say that my biggest accomplishment as a business owner was the clinics that I built from the ground up. With a little turnover in staff and the client base, I have helped discover their own superpowers through embodiment, curiosity, and accountability. I have truly been so fortunate to do what I love for so long and transition into an evolved coaching career that makes me look forward to each day.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest part of being a business owner is setting my own boundaries on my time and knowing when to contract out tasks. I am a "get it done" person with a high "nurturing" side, which up until recently had me doing "all the things." I love that I have built a business I love, and looking back, I do wish I had built better time boundaries to take more time caring for myself.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know that the way that feels right for you to build your business is the right way. Listen to what your gut tells you, and take time every day to shut out the external noise from others and social media.
- There is no overnight success. There are small steps, being who you are meant to be, like a dance that goes forward, sideways, and backward, and learning that dance takes wisdom and experience, which often comes from making choices... sometimes good and sometimes challenging.
- Embrace the pivot. Zoom out to get perspective. There is freedom in flexibility and discipline.
