Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kara Laws, CEO of Launched, located in Blanding, UT, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is called Launched. I teach new business owners all the steps in the right order to make sure they are building solid business foundations. A solid business foundation saves you time, makes you more money, and helps you avoid expensive mistakes. I work with female business owners to help them create highly successful businesses.
Tell us about yourself
I am a business educator. I have loved business since my sixth-grade class did a big "market day." We all had to create our own businesses and sell things for Monopoly money. It was so much fun, and I have enjoyed business since then. I have started six businesses of my own. I have sold four of those businesses and still run two.
I started Launched because when I moved into the business coaching space, I realized that most women in business had a lot of the same problems that I had had. They were either cash poor in their business or working so hard they didn't have a life.
By the time they got to me, their businesses were usually a mess, and it was costing them thousands and thousands to try and fix the problems. So, I went searching for a program that taught business owners how to avoid mistakes and how to build a business RIGHT from the ground up. I couldn't find that program, so I created it myself.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am pretty proud of my new ability to speak publicly without wanting to throw up anymore. :D
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
There is no perfect. Business is never perfect, and business is never done. Business is constantly evolving. We are always making things better and better. Sometimes that is really hard because we want things to be done and perfect with a cute bow on top.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get a map: Know what you are building and in what order.
- Find support: You do NOT have to build your business alone, and you shouldn't have to. Getting support is not cheating; it is smart.
- Be comfortable with failure: You will screw things up. You will send emails without links; you will miss an appointment; you will fail at something. There is no power in perfection, but there is insane power in resilience.
