Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty and cosmetics but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marysa Mychole, Owner of Lashype LA, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I provide luxury services to the DTLA and surrounding areas. I focus on eyelash extensions and styling hair. I have clients who travel from Barstow, Lake Elsinore, West LA, and Whittier. My clients are anywhere from businesswomen to working moms and everything in between.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Marysa Mychole, and I'm from Whittier, CA. I've been in the beauty industry for as long as I can remember. From doing my friend's makeup and hair for high school events to offering $5 men's haircuts after school. I always wanted to be well-rounded in the industry. I still want to do it all. I've always seen fault in every workplace I've worked, from unfair wages to just toxic environments. I knew I would create something eventually that would allow me to create in a space that would be more fulfilling, and that is exactly what I did. What motivates me every day is just seeing how much I've been able to grow in such a short amount of time, and this is only my beginning.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is being able to give back to the city that gives me so much. With the help of my clients, we have donated hundreds of care packages and plates to the homeless only a few streets away from where I live and work. I never thought my business would be able to be used as a tool to help the community. Another accomplishment is being a lash educator. Helping people gain financial stability and hearing their success stories is incredible.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing for me as a business owner is not being able to say no. I go weeks without a day off and definitely run myself thin. I'm busy, but it's a good problem, so it's hard to complain.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Quit your job and start your business.
- Post your work; someone is always watching.
- Talk about your plans to everyone 24/7. Set your intentions and do everything you have set your mind to.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Starting my business was the best thing I could have done for myself. The amount of support I received was shocking. I didn't know that many people cared or remembered me to support me as they have. I want to thank my hometown, Whittier, for showing me the most love and riding with me through all the hardships throughout the years.
