Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jill Kindall, founder and CEO of Lashbomb, located in Mesa, AZ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
LASHBOMB supplies professional, high-performing supplies for eyelash extension artists. We value providing others with the training and resources that make the process easier for the service provider and healthier for the client's natural lash.
Tell us about yourself
I went to esthetics school in 2010 at 50 years old, looking for a new career. When I got to the eyelash extension portion of our curriculum, I realized a lot of things needed to be invented to simplify the process. I went to work on my inventions, and now 11 years later, we have developed a complete product line and training course that offers everything lash artists need to work efficiently and explode their careers.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As a business owner, my joy comes from seeing others find success and fulfillment in their career as lash artists. One woman we trained was a struggling single mother making $600 a week to provide for her mother and three children. She took our training course and a few months later called me up and said she was now making $600 a day and was so grateful for what we had taught her. It's moments like that, seeing others make a good living for themselves doing something they love, that really solidify my "why" as a business owner.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
For me personally, one of the challenges of being a business owner is the pressure to be present on social media. I'm enjoying making reels with our team, but it's taken us a while to find our groove with it. I'm not a big social media person, but learning to evolve with the digital age has been an exciting challenge for us.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't cut any legal corners - do everything with the proper licenses, insurances, and permits.
- Follow your passion. Do what ignites you and keeps you up at night with ideas and excitement.
- Be patient, and don't give up. It may take you a few years to really take off and find your groove, but once you do, the payoff is well worth it.
