What's your business, and who are your customers?

Lark Love creates luxury personal lubricants and botanical body products made for women by women.

Tell us about yourself

I am a clinical herbalist and have been a natural product formulator for over a decade. My business partner, Rainbow, is an entrepreneur and feminist activist. We noticed that although personal lubricants are applied to women's bodies, they are never formulated for our bodies. We decided to create a company that dissolves the stigma around personal lubricants and formulates products that feel like traditional water-based lubes but behave on vaginal tissue like a fancy face serum. All of our lubes are condom compatible, PH'd for the vagina, and super slippery, but their real dazzle is in the way that they deeply hydrate, promote collagen and elastin production, and rejuvenate vaginal tissue.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Sticking through the hard times. Figuring out solutions to those snags that feel absolutely unsolvable.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It's very vulnerable. Creating a product is so much fun, but then pitching your product and company day after day can be exhausting.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Have a personal financial plan. New companies don't pay for a while, so make sure you have external resources to fund your life. Get a really good partner. Going at it alone is so exhausting; having someone to bounce ideas off of or take the reins when you are burnt out will keep your business rolling along. Stick with it. You will hear so many more no's than yesses in the beginning; if it's a project that you love and believe in, stay the course.
